Why Neocities? A.K.A. About My Website!
I was introduced to the concept of personal websites through social media, and it inspired me to use html as a tool to create my acting website. I was bored of the standard templates on comercial website building and hosting platforms and felt that building my own site on neocities would allow me to fully express myself creatively. As an artist, I feel that my website is more than a marketing tool, and can be an extention of my art.
I created this using a template I found on another neocities website (its linked below on the copywrite in the bottom right corner) and through edditing this template, watching youtube videos, and searching on reddit, was able to teach myself html code. I never considered myself very adept at math or science, so I was surprised at how easy it was to learn. I'll admit, there were many times where I made a tiny typo that resulted in the entire thing collapsing and me having to start all over. But, I'm really proud of the way it turned out, and super excited to see the ways it will evolve.
For the design elements, I made everything myself. The background is a collage that I made out of paper, then scanned and uploaded into the website. I made the design a continous pattern so it could go on as far as I needed almost seemlessly. I really like that I was able to incoorporate my passion for papercrafts into my website through this subtle detail. The stamp designs in the nav bar were drawn on my ipad, but I did admittedly trace some inspo pics (sorry!). Other graphics you see where made by using a photo editing app and splicing images together. My button and the little comedy mask at the top of the screen on the tab for my page were made using a pixel art app.
This project has been really fun. I love having a website that I feel truly reflects me as an artist and a person. I hope you have as much fun looking at it as I did making it!
